Writing and preparing content for the website requires a different approach from writing and preparing content for print documents and publications. People rarely read web pages; instead, they scan the page.
In research on how people read websites it was found that 79 percent of our test users always scanned any new page they came across; only 16 percent read the content. Try following ideas for writing effective content for website --
- Use journalistic style writing - i.e. writing most important information at the begining of each web page.
- Use compelling headlines. The headlines is what gets your web page read. So, don't write something quickly just before sending.
- Important note on headlines: Don't use "weasel words." These include perhaps, looks like, it could help, maybe, but, wish etc. Instead use words like "can" & "will" to describe what your product or service will or can do for your reader.
- Include bullet points to make it easy to read, and more importantly, easy to scan, as most readers scan a page before deciding whether or not to read all the details.
- After you write your first draft of web content - read it out loud. If possible, have someone else read it to see if they understand the message and the call to action. And then do necessary corrections/ editing.
Hope this helps you attract more customers via your website. :) Cheers! Akshar |
